Since the friendID is part of the URL to your profile, no, you cannot hide it. Any attempt to will fail miserably, sorry to say.

You can set your URL to a certain name. and only that will display but your Friend ID will be exposed every time someone comments, messages, add (attempts to add), and even browsing your pictures. Sorry i hate leaving mine open too but best of luck.
