If you want only people not on your friends list to see only the basics of you profile (Name, age, location, headline, and last log-in), then setting your profile to private is the way to go- this can be done in Account Settings, under Privacy.

However, if you want to hide things on your profile from everyone, including people on your friends list, then you need coding; codes can be found on many different websites for MySpace editing.

My personal favorite is http://mygen.co.uk/ It has a nice generator for making your own layout, a good selection of layouts made by other users, and different codes for hiding your comments, friends list, Extended Network banner, etc.
